COMMENTS: In 2014, Samuel Eto'o captained Cameroon at his fourth FIFA World Cup and subsequently retired from international football as the nation's all-time leading scorer. Eto'o was one of only three African players at the time to participate in four World Cup tournaments (1998, 2002, 2010, 2014). He captained the team in their opening match, a 1–0 loss to Mexico on June 13, 2014. This proved to be his final match for Cameroon.
